The Smith Chart was developed by Phillip Smith of RCA. It is a circular chart that allows complex impedances to be graphically displayed. It facilitates the transformation of Cartesian to Polar coordinates, graphically. More importantly it can be used to map and determine impedance transformations. This makes it an extremely useful tool and should be found in all RF designers' tool kits
